Greyfriars meets every Friday evening throughout the year and the doors open soon after 7pm, so that we are ready to begin our talk at 7.45. Many of our members are retired, but we would welcome some younger members too who share our wide ranging interests.

Our talks feature many different subjects. Local history is always popular, but we also enjoy travelogues, and talks about natural history, music, literature. We have had talks on obscure subjects, humorous subjects and talks delivered by members. the programme is always varied and often surprising.

Whilst our Friday evening talks are the mainstay of what Greyfriars is about, there are aslo opportunities to join outside events. We organise regular theatre trips to several of our local theatres, and we have social events such as skittles evenings and even croquet!

Coach trips are also popular with members. the picture above was taken on a day trip to Cromford Mill. We have also enjoyed trips to Windsor, Ironbridge, and an overnight stay to Norwich and to the Thursford Christmas Spectacular

Greyfriars is as much about people as anything else, and we often include evenings planned and organised by members. These include our Poetry Night, and Ten Minute Talk evenings.

At Christmas, a small group of members put on some kind of entertainment for our audience. The picture above shows a 'murder mystery' which was presented one Christmas. A New Year Party is often held in early January.

Greyfriars members like to get out and about, and walks are organised on an occasional basis. Our less active members are not forgotten and enjoy coming out to meet up for Sunday lunch at a local pub.

Other local outings have included a farm visit to see the lambing, and a visit to the city's Police Museum.
